Description

The design of this coin offers an inspiring insight into Austria’s proud heritage and culture. The obverse features a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I, one of the country’s most famous rulers. The portrait depicts him in profile, dressed in his traditional military attire with a laurel wreath on his head. Although the coin design was first minted in 1872, the year engraved on the reverse is a recognition that the economic constraints of World War I put an end, at least temporarily, to gold coinage in 1915.
